Home Learning
Homework at Blackminster is not set according to a rigid timetable. This is because a timetable can lead to two main problems:

1) Appropriate homework not being set because “it’s the wrong day”

2) Homework being set because it’s due on the timetable, rather than being set to benefit learning.

Instead, we have an expectation that homework is set roughly once for every five lessons taught. This means that some subjects (eg English and maths in year 6) will usually have homework each week, but others (eg ethics and philosophy in year 7) may only have homework once a month or so.
Some subjects (such as art and resistant materials) may choose to set longer-term projects for homework.

We give students a diary in which to record their homework, and we ask parents and carers to sign this each week. We also operate an online system called Show My Homework, which allows parents, carers and students to access their homework at any time from their computers, tablets or smartphones.

Show My Homework can be access from the link at the top of the school’s website: this gives the whole school homework calendar which can then be filtered by subject or year group or teacher. Alternatively, the Show My Homework app can be downloaded onto phones or tablets and set up to just show the homework for a particular child or children. It’s very easy to do, and even sends reminders! The app needs a PIN – email lmcquone@blackminster.worcs.sch.uk to get yours.
